He has held various academic research and teaching positions, including a Humboldt Research Fellowship at the University of Regensburg, Germany (2005-2007), followed by roles as a postdoctoral researcher and Lecturer in Applied Mathematics at the University of Bristol, UK (2007-2011). Subsequently, he worked as a research scientist at the Max Planck Institute for the Physics of Complex Systems, Germany (2011-2012), and as a Senior Lecturer in Applied Mathematics at Northumbria University, UK (2012-2019). From 2019 to 2024, he held the position of Senior Lecturer in Physics at the University of Portsmouth, UK. Currently, while leading Quantum Physics Corner, Arseni also holds a part-time research position at the University of Geneva, Switzerland. Teaching profile Throughout his career at esteemed universities in the UK, USA, and Germany, Arseni has taught a diverse range of physics and mathematics courses, spanning from introductory to advanced levels. These include real and complex analysis, calculus, linear algebra, mathematical physics, computational physics, solid-state physics, and quantum mechanics. Quantum mechanics, in particular, holds a special place in Arseni's heart, serving as the primary focus of his research endeavours. With over 25 years dedicated to teaching, exploring, and researching quantum mechanics, Arseni has developed a distinctive approach to conveying this captivating field of science. His unique methodology enables effective communication with learners from diverse backgrounds and expertise levels. Arseni's engaging teaching style and the clarity of his explanations have consistently resonated with students, leading to several nominations for Best Lecturer. In 2018, Arseni was honoured with the invitation to deliver a special postgraduate-level course on quantum wave packets at the University of Regensburg, Germany. All in all, Arseni's passion for teaching and expertise in quantum mechanics continue to inspire and empower students on their educational journey. Research profile Arseni has dedicated over 25 years to exploring physical phenomena pertaining to the motion of quantum matter waves, particularly delving into the dynamics of quantum wave packets. Throughout his academic journey, Arseni has made significant contributions to various research domains such as quantum chaos, quantum transients, and time-dependent scattering, among others. The nearly complete list of Arseni's publications is available here . Currently, Arseni is deeply engaged in investigating the intriguing phenomenon of quantum backflow. This phenomenon defies intuition as it reveals that a quantum particle can move in the direction opposite to its momentum, a behaviour unimaginable in classical mechanics. Those who would like to find out more about the fascinating subject of quantum backflow, and in particular about Arseni's contribution to the field, are invited to explore the following selected papers: Simulating quantum backflow on a quantum computer Quantum backflow in a ring Equivalence between quantum backflow and classically forbidden probability flow in a diffraction-in-time problem Throughout his career, Arseni has remained an active member of the scientific community. He has served as a referee for over two dozen peer-reviewed physics journals and as a grant application reviewer for major European research funding agencies. He has organised conferences, undertaken editorial work, supervised PhD and Masters students, and presented his research at numerous international conferences and workshops. For a detailed overview of Arseni's academic profile, his complete curriculum vitae is available upon request.
